Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Zagora

Departure: 7:00 AM from Marrakech

We pick you up from your accommodation in Marrakech to begin your adventure. Our route heads south through the magnificent High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass, Morocco's highest major road crossing. This scenic section features winding roads with panoramic views of traditional Berber villages and terraced valleys.

Driving time: 3.5 hours to Ait Ben Haddou

Your first major stop is the remarkable Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village (ksar) constructed from earthen clay architecture. This UNESCO site has served as a filming location for numerous international productions and represents the finest example of traditional southern Moroccan building techniques. We provide approximately 1.5 hours to explore the site, which includes a moderate uphill walk through the ksar's atmospheric narrow passages.

Lunch stop: Ait Ben Haddou or Ouarzazate (not included in tour price)

After Ait Ben Haddou, we continue to Ouarzazate, approximately 30 minutes away. This regional center features the impressive Taourirt Kasbah and famous Atlas Film Studios. We schedule time for photo opportunities and comfort breaks.

Driving time: 3.5-4 hours from Ouarzazate to Zagora

The afternoon portion follows the scenic Draa Valley, characterized by extensive palm groves, ancient kasbahs, and traditional irrigation systems. This journey passes through several charming towns including Agdz. You'll notice the landscape transitioning from mountain foothills to increasingly dramatic arid terrain as we approach Zagora.

Arrival in Zagora: Approximately 6:00-7:00 PM

We've arranged your accommodation for the night in either a well-appointed desert camp located outside Zagora or a comfortable hotel within the town, depending on your selected service level. Our desert camps feature traditional nomadic-style tents with private or shared bathroom facilities. Your evening meal is included and served at the accommodation.

Day 2: Zagora – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

Sunrise viewing: Optional (5:30-6:30 AM depending on season)

We encourage our guests to wake early to witness the spectacular sunrise over the desert landscape. Some of our packages include a memorable camel ride (30-60 minutes) before breakfast, creating the perfect desert experience.

Breakfast and departure: 8:00 AM

After enjoying breakfast at your accommodation, we begin the return journey. Our route retraces the previous day's path through the beautiful Draa Valley and back over the Atlas Mountains.

Driving time: 7-8 hours total with stops

We schedule a lunch stop (not included) in Ouarzazate or along the route. We also make additional brief stops for photographs and rest breaks at the scenic Tizi n'Tichka pass.

Arrival in Marrakech: Approximately 6:00-7:00 PM

We drop you off at your original pickup location or any mutually agreed point in Marrakech.

Is your trip suitable for children?

Yes, we welcome families! However, children should be comfortable with long car rides. We find that infants and toddlers may find the driving hours challenging.

Can I extend the trip to include more locations?

Absolutely! We offer extensions to include spectacular locations like the Todra Gorge or Dades Valley, which require adding at least one additional day.

What is the difference between Zagora and Merzouga for desert tours?

Zagora is closer to Marrakech (7 hours) with smaller dunes and semi-desert landscape, making it perfect for our 2-day itinerary. Merzouga features larger erg dunes but requires 9-10 hours of driving from Marrakech, better suited for longer tours.

Are meals provided during the drive?

We include dinner and breakfast, but lunches and drinks are not included. We make stops at quality restaurants where you can purchase meals that suit your preferences.

What type of vehicle do you use?

We use comfortable 4x4 vehicles for smaller groups or spacious minivans/minibuses for larger parties, all equipped with air conditioning for your comfort.

Is the camel ride included in the price?
